  • Early diagnosis, optimal treatment and effective ongoing support and management reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications

Knowledge of how to look after yourself to minimise or even prevent complications is an important first step.  

The Diabetes Clinic is a service that focuses on:

1. Patient education about Diabetes in general

  • Glucose monitoring, and glucose targets

  • Diabetes treatments- tablets and injectable treatments 

  • Lifestyle management

  • Hypoglycaemia symptoms and treatment

  • Sick day management

  • Issues related to exercise, driving, pregnancy and other special situations.

2. Maintaining a healthy weight

3. Regular screening for diabetes complications

  • monitor eye

  • regular kidney checks

  • regular foot examination with podiatry care if there are foot related complications or the patient cannot manage their own foot care

  • regular review of Cholesterol and  Blood pressure to help avoid diabetes related complications on the cardiovascular system 

  • smoking avoidance and cessation are important for this as well
